A Review on Dam Engineering Practice and Sustainability in Nigeria

This study focuses on dam structures in Nigeria, its availability, features, usefulness, benefits and costs, functionality sustainability. The gap found World Commission Dams (WCD) Report Dam Development being inability to proffer solutions problems encountered by the downstream population was highlighted discussed also. procedure for this research work involved use of journals, books other related literature. It observed that many projects Nigeria are lacking areas feasibility studies, design construction procedure, operation maintenance, which resulted like flooding sometimes collapse some dams. Downstream rather than reaping abundant record costs since their means livelihood is hampered, affecting social, environmental economic well-being. has large, medium small dams also single multipurpose. Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) recommended each project a committee should be set-up monitor implementation later, from inception end paper recommends fresh attention impacts upstream enable them benefit immensely these river valley projects.
